Clear Boundaries. Complete Data Sovereignty.
Smartchoice Technology operates on transparent commercial licensing, robust multi-tenant software boundaries, and absolute protection of client data ownership. Learn how our enterprise licensing framework delineates core software rights, localized innovations, and statutory compliance.
The Smartchoice Technology Platform & Brand
Smartchoice Technology provides mission-critical software solutions designed to modernise medical schemes, third-party administrators (TPAs), and managed care networks across Southern Africa. Our platform brand represents an integrated suite of administrative engines—including Smartchoice Claims, Membership, Provider, Exchange, Benefits, Payments, and Insights.
The Smartchoice Health Administration Suite incorporates underlying enterprise healthcare technology licensed from Invidasys Inc. Under this commercial structure:
- Background Intellectual Property: Invidasys Inc. retains all exclusive proprietary rights, title, and ownership in and to its background source code, core platform architectures, base schemas, and underlying software patents.
- Local & Jointly Developed Components: Smartchoice Technology develops, owns, and maintains proprietary South African market extensions, statutory compliance logic, regional clearing-house interfaces, localized rule libraries, and tailored operational workflows in accordance with applicable commercial agreements.
- Separation of Core Platforms: Enterprise client deployments receive authorized, non-exclusive commercial software usage rights governed by explicit enterprise agreements; no transfer of underlying source code, algorithmic patents, or base platform intellectual property occurs through routine licensing.
Client Data Sovereignty & POPIA Governance
We maintain an unequivocal boundary regarding data ownership: your organization retains 100% ownership of its data at all times.
- Exclusive Funder Data Ownership: All beneficiary records, member demographic rosters, claims histories, provider contracts, fee schedules, and financial ledgers hosted or processed within the platform remain the exclusive property of the client or medical scheme.
- Operator Status Under POPIA: Smartchoice Technology acts strictly as an "Operator" on behalf of the client (the "Responsible Party") under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). We process special personal information and financial data exclusively in accordance with validated client mandates and statutory provisions.
- No Data Monetisation or Model Training: Client operational and clinical records are never sold, commercialised, aggregated for third-party resale, or used to train external public artificial intelligence models.
- Isolated Tenant Environments: Data residency is anchored within certified South African hyper-scale cloud regions (such as Microsoft Azure South Africa North). Client data is isolated within distinct tenant boundaries with field-level encryption at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3).
Contractual Scope & Implementation Deliverables
Public website documentation, product overviews, and capability summaries provide high-level functional descriptions for market evaluation. Specific legal, operational, and commercial commitments are established exclusively through formal engagement schedules:
- Master Services Agreements (MSAs): Define overarching enterprise licensing terms, mutual confidentiality covenants, liability limits, and governance standards.
- Statements of Work (SOWs): Explicitly specify authorized product modules, custom API connectors, migration schedules, user licensing tiers, and acceptance criteria. Detailed functional specifications and architecture designs are shared under mutual Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).
- Service Level Agreements (SLAs): Formalise uptime commitments, incident response classifications, planned maintenance windows, and disaster recovery objectives (RPO/RTO) tailored to your operational tier.
